Being Vegan comes at a cost ... to your own health! Just take a look at the Vegan food pyramid. After a base of fruits and vegetables, the next big item is grains ... all of which are processed, have little nutritional value, and have been proven to be at the root cause of Hyperinsulinemia. Not only is protein sorely lacking in this diet, but so is healthy fat.
Like it or not, we are designed to thrive as the Caveman did ... consuming mostly protein and healthy fat, not unhealthy carbohydrates from processed grains, and absolutely not poisonous refined sugar / high fructose corn syrup. I'm sorry to tell you this, but you ARE a Caveman / Cavewoman!
Having said that, I agree with some of the moral issues regarding the treatment of the animals we consume. The Caveman did not have over-populated ranches of animals (or farms of fish) kept in cramped pens and fed unhealthy grains themselves. They were not forced fed antibiotics (to prevent disease from their unhealthy environment) and hormones (to make them artificially fatter). The animals and fish that the Caveman consumed roamed free and ate naturally, making them much healthier. Their good health also made their consumption much healthier for the Caveman as well. The best solution is to support your local organic farmers!
